Anthony Patterson gives short reply amid Sunderland exit speculation

Anthony Patterson has claimed he is unaware of any transfer interest linking him with a move away from Sunderland this January.

Patterson has been a regular starter for the Black Cats this season and has played a crucial role between the sticks in aiding them in their push for promotion leading to transfer interest.

Manchester United had been previously linked with the goalkeeper (Daily Mail) with Tottenham and Wolves recently kinked (The Sun) but Patterson told the Sunderland Echo (3 January) that he is unaware of the interest in a short reply to the speculation.

Patterson explained: “Like I always say, I’m a Sunderland player and I’m concentrating on this season and getting to Sunderland where they belong really.”

Sunderland promotion can be aided by Anthony Patterson

Patterson once again showcased his worth to the Black Cats with a penalty save in their win against Sheffield United when the score was level.

Kieffer Moore was hauled down in the box by Luke O’Nien with Patterson providing the heroics from the penalty spot not long before Eliezer Mayenda opened the scoring.

His save allowed O’Nien to see the funny side of his own performance in the clash.

A minority of fans have criticised Patterson but he has been the reason behind several of the points picked up by the Mackems this season and will no doubt play an even bigger part going forward.

If Sunderland were to lose him, it would leave a huge hole in the goalkeeping department that will probably be undermined until that day comes.

The very fact that several Premier League clubs have been courting his services is a testament to the level of ability he has at this level.
