Amad Diallo makes ‘beautiful’ admission on Sunderland loan spell

Amad Diallo has spoken out about his loan spell at Sunderland after breaking into the first team at Manchester United this season.

Amad was absolutely adored during his loan spell on Wearside in 2022/23 and Sunderland supporters have enjoyed every second of his rise in the Premier League.

Before breaking through at Old Trafford, a summer-long saga raised questions about whether he could return to Sunderland although recent performances have completely eradicated those chances.

Speaking to Inside United (16 December), Amad said: “Sunderland was my second time on loan, and I have a lot of beautiful things to say about the club. They supported me and were unbelievable with me and my family and tried to help me in everything – on and off the pitch.

“They give me a lot of love and I enjoyed every moment of playing for Sunderland – I was so happy to be part of it.

“I wish everyone at Sunderland the best for now and for the future because they are a beautiful club.”

Amad Diallo and Sunderland were a perfect match

To think that the Mackems once had Amad on loan is remarkable when you see how he is faring at the top end of the Premier League now.

Those on Wearside knew he was destined for big things after being a standout performer in almost every Championship encounter he was involved in, including an incredible wonder goal scored against Luton in the playoff semi-finals.

The Black Cats haven’t had that attacking flair since his departure which is perhaps to be expected given how much quality he had with the ball at his feet.

Simply put, Amad in the Championship was a cheat code and the ability to get him here in the first place was remarkable although the role in his development will certainly do them no harm in recreating the scenario with another highly rated loan star.

That could be Louie Barry in January, having been linked with a move to Wearside (Sunday Mirror) and Aston Villa may look at Amad’s development with Barry in mind.
