‘Brilliant’ – Ally McCoist blown away by what he’s seen from Sunderland
Ally McCoist has hailed Sunderland for their “brilliant” start to life under Regis Le Bris in the Championship.
The Black Cats followed up a 2-0 opening-day win away at Cardiff City with an even more impressive 4-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Le Bris was a left-field appointment when brought in during the summer, but Sunderland sit second in the table after two rounds of fixtures.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [19 August, 6:54am], McCoist said: “It’s been a brilliant start. They had that victory at Cardiff and then this weekend [against Sheffield Wednesday].”
Sunderland need to keep momentum going
Many on the outside were unsure what to expect from Sunderland this season. Indeed, many supporters were in the exact same category.
Two games into the campaign, though, and it is clear that something special could be brewing at the Stadium of Light.
The win at Cardiff was a real statement, coming in a game in which Sunderland were not always on top yet still won by a couple of goals.
Putting four past Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, who also made a bright start to their campaign, was further proof that a play-off challenge is possible this season.

You can never get too ahead of yourselves after just a couple of weekends of action, of course, but there is no reason why Le Bris’ men cannot use this momentum heading into the first international break.
However, there is the small matter of Burnley at home next weekend, with that a clash between the top two. Should the Black Cats win that, they will sit top of the table at this early stage. From there, who knows what is possible?
