All 34 words Alan Shearer said about Sunderland on Match of the Day after win vs Wolves

Sunderland continued their brilliant start to the Premier League season on Saturday by beating Wolves 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Nordi Mukiele’s fantastic performance drove Sunderland to all three points, marking their best home start to a Premier League campaign since 1968.

The French defender’s goal in the first half had Sunderland holding onto their lead for much of the game, until Ladislav Krejci’s 95th-minute own goal made sure of the victory.

Regis Le Bris has done a fantastic job at Sunderland, and he is finally starting to get the widespread praise he deserves as his side now sits seventh in the Premier League table.

Another solid all-round display was enough to get the Mackems over the line as, once again, their defensive structure was fantastic.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 19 September, Shearer refused to give Sunderland too much praise after their vital win.

He said, “Well, you watched this game, Micah, so you can talk about them. But, we did say about their home form, it was always going to be key, and that’s been part of their success.”

Aside from his goal, Mukiele was outstanding in every area of the pitch, as Sunderland moved 12 points clear of their 20th-placed visitors already.

With 14 points from their first eight matches, the Black Cats have recorded the joint-seventh best start a promoted side has made in Premier League history.

With a tough set of fixtures on the horizon, the win on Saturday was crucial, as Sunderland look to use the Stadium of Light to enhance their chances of avoiding relegation.

The Stadium of Light is a fortress, and Sunderland know they always have a chance at home, regardless of the opposition.

The Stadium of Light has already had plenty of magical moments this season

Every game at home has been wildly different for Sunderland, yet they’ve achieved a positive result every single time.

A comfortable 3-0 win on the opening day of the season over West Ham was the dream start for Le Bris, whilst the last-gasp victory over Brentford provided the Stadium of Light with euphoria.

After a battling draw at home to Villa, Saturday’s result against Wolves has shown that the Black Cats have relished every single match they play at home.

With Everton, Arsenal, and Bournemouth in their next three home matches, Sunderland will be confident they can extend their unbeaten record at the Stadium of Light.
