All 32 words Alan Shearer said about Sunderland on Match of the Day in loss vs Man United

Sunderland have dropped down to seventh in the table following their defeat to Man United at Old Trafford.

Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko gave Man United a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, with the Mackems falling to their second defeat of the season.

Sunderland fans will feel hard done by, as referee Stuart Attwell was at the centre of many controversies.

Regis Le Bris’ side will now split up for the international break, yet they will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Wolves at the Stadium of Light on 18 October.

Alan Shearer has encouraging words for Sunderland fans on Match of the Day

The Black Cats were looking for a first win at Old Trafford since 2014, yet those two first-half goals left them with a mountain to climb.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 4 October, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer was once again full of praise for another Sunderland performance.

He said: “Certainly in the first 30 minutes, it was a more even game when Sunderland matched them up and changed their system.

“Sunderland were the much better team, and were more competitive then.”

This is not the first time Shearer has praised Sunderland this season, despite making 405 appearances for arch-rivals Newcastle.

Shearer applauded Nordi Mukiele for his performance against Aston Villa, whilst consistently singling out Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs as being excellent signings.

Sunderland now find themselves sitting seventh in the Premier League after seven matches, as fans continue to be ecstatic with the side’s brilliant start to the season.

Sunderland fans can take positives from Man United loss

The defeat to Man United won’t take away any of the euphoria that is surrounding Sunderland at the moment.

Not only were Man United favourites to beat Sunderland, but the Black Cats were seen as favourites for relegation at the start of the season.

On Saturday, Le Bris’ team went toe-to-toe with a club that spent £200million on their attack in the summer transfer window.

Whilst there was a lack of ruthlessness in the final third, certain refereeing decisions did not go Sunderland’s way, and Le Bris can definitely use what he saw at Old Trafford as something to work on throughout the season.

The defending for the second goal was incredibly poor, yet apart from that, Sunderland supporters should be more than happy with how this season has panned out so far.
