Alan Shearer shares what he finds ‘brilliant’ about Sunderland after what he has seen

Sunderland continued their impressive start to the Premier League season on Saturday.

Regis Le Bris saw his Sunderland side beat Wolves 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, which has put the Black Cats up to seventh in the Premier League.

The win was needed with Sunderland losing 2-0 to Manchester United before the international break, as Nordi Mukiele played his best game for Le Bris against Wolves.

Sunderland‘s blistering start back in the Premier League has drawn lots of attention, even from former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer wowed by Sunderland’s home record

The win against Wolves has only extended Sunderland’s impressive undefeated record at the Stadium of Light, as Shearer has weighed in on the benefits that a roaring Mackem crowd has for Le Bris’ men.

The Stadium of Light has been hailed by opposition sides this season, as more teams are starting to eye Sunderland as a difficult away fixture.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer said, “Three wins and a draw at home for Sunderland, brilliant, I mean it doesn’t take a genius to work it out, but we all said that their home form is going to be really key.

“Sunderland will be ecstatic with the start they’ve made.”

The Black Cats already have 14 points in the Premier League in eight games played, and 10 of those have come at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s home, like Shearer says, will be key if they are to stay in the promised land beyond this campaign, but their next three home fixtures could prove difficult.

Sunderland have difficult fixtures soon at the Stadium of Light

Some have argued that Sunderland’s start to the season has been due to the generous fixture in front of them, but it’s simply a case of ‘you can only beat what’s in front of you’ for the Black Cats.

Sunderland’s next three opponents at the Stadium of Light have so far only lost a combined total of four matches in 24 Premier League games.

Arsenal are looking like the favourites for the title, while Bournemouth and Everton are both pushing for European football qualification this season.

However, Le Bris and Sunderland will almost certainly be looking to harness the powers that the Stadium of Light gives the Black Cats, and who knows? Some upsets could happen.
