Alan Shearer love-in moves to uncomfortable heights after what he’s now said about Sunderland duo

Regis Le Bris has taken Sunderland to unparalleled heights in the Premier League this season.

The Black Cats sit fifth in the table, and fans are dreaming about what this season could hold.

Sunderland’s 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest was not only their first away win of the season, but marked a significant shift in how other teams will be viewing the Mackems.

And Newcastle favourite Alan Shearer was full of praise for two Sunderland stars in particular who stood out on Saturday.

Alan Shearer names Omar Alderete and Robin Roefs in his Premier League Team of the Week

Omar Alderete’s first-half header was enough to secure the three points on Saturday, with Robin Roefs making a string of impressive saves to keep the Nottingham Forest attack at bay.

In Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week for the Premier League, both players were highlighted for their immense performances.

Regarding Roefs, he said: “Imperious in goal, making six saves to keep Nottingham Forest out as Sunderland won 1-0.”

For Alderete, he added: “An excellent header which proved to be the winner, and a rock-solid display in the heart of defence.”

Roefs was impenetrable once again against Nottingham Forest, with the shot-stopper keeping his third Premier League clean sheet in six appearances.

Troy Deeney also praised Roefs’ performance, as the Dutch goalkeeper continues to exceed expectations following his £8million move from NEC Nijmegen.

As for Alderete, his ball-playing ability was phenomenal, he was aggressive in both boxes, and his display was capped off by the winning goal.

Shearer has made a regular habit in recent weeks of naming Sunderland players in his Team of the Week, with his love-in for the Mackems reaching almost uncomfortable levels.

Omar Alderete another example of Sunderland’s smart recruitment

Sunderland’s squad was in need of a huge restructuring after last season’s promotion, yet the Black Cats have excelled in finding top-quality players.

Alderete cost Sunderland £10.8m, and has been a rock in defence.

The Paraguayan centre-back has started the last five Premier League games, recording a goal and an assist in that time.

Alongside Nordi Mukiele, Sunderland have shown that it is not impossible to acquire excellent defenders as a newly-promoted side in the Premier League.

Florent Ghisolfi and Kristjaan Speakman have done a fantastic job, and should they continue to recruit smartly, the future of Sunderland is in safe hands.
