Ahmed Abdullahi absence explained as Sunderland exit route emerges
Ahmed Abdullahi looks to be on his way out of Sunderland this winter.
Sunderland have struggled from open play this season, though their forwards have still delivered the goods throughout the campaign.
Wilson Isidor is the Black Cats’ leading scorer, with Brian Brobbey and Eliezer Mayenda behind him in the pecking order.
Even further down the line is Addullahi, who, despite joining in August 2024, is yet to make an appearance for the Wearsiders.

Sunderland to seek loan move for Ahmed Abdullahi
A loan move to France fell through in the summer for Abdullahi, after it looked as though he was set for a move to Angers.
Instead, he remained on Wearside, but has been absent from the last few Under-21 fixtures, with many wondering as to where he really is.
However, Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Abdullahi has suffered yet another injury setback, but that the Black Cats will look to find a loan move for him in January.
As quoted by the Northern Echo, he said: “We tried the last period to find a solution to go on loan, but it wasn’t possible because of, not a problem with the club, but a problem with the rules in France. But we’ll try this winter.”
“Aji [Alese] and Ahmed [Abdullahi] got new injuries, so it’s like a new period for them.
“We didn’t rush the process, but they need more time to get fit or ready for the level of our squad.”
Several Sunderland attackers could leave in January
Eliezer Mayenda could also be on his way out of Sunderland on loan, having only started once for the Black Cats this season.
The Spaniard scored on his Premier League debut, but has had very little gametime since.
Aside from Abdullahi, Sunderland will also have a decision to make with Timur Tutierov, who has impressed for the Under-21s this season.
At 20 years old, senior football is going to be key for his development, and a loan move to the EFL could benefit him significantly.
Sunderland are expected to be active in the January transfer window, meaning these players are going to see even less game time at senior level.
