Agbonlahor makes shock Wilson Isidor claim for Sunderland play-off v Coventry

Gabriel Agbonlahor revealed his feelings on Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor ahead of Friday night’s encounter with Coventry City.

Sunderland will be no strangers to their horrendous record against Coventry City ahead of Friday night’s playoff clash at the CBS Arena.

The Black Cats have failed to beat the Sky Blues in over 18 years, and are winless against them away from home in 40, showcasing the task at hand.

If Sunderland are to overcome that record, they will need to get their attacking players back on form, having found the back of the net just once in their last six, with a shock Isidor claim made ahead of the game.

Isidor praised by Agbonlahor despite Sunderland form

Isidor has failed to score in any of his last 13 appearances for Sunderland, sparking major concern on Wearside as to where their goals are going to come from in the playoffs.

After such a bright start to the campaign, the Black Cats thought they finally had their Ross Stewart replacement, but that optimism has since faded away, at least on Wearside.

Ahead of the game on Friday, Agbonlahor revealed who was in his EFL play-off fantasy team, and he reserved a spot for the Frenchman up top.

Via talkSPORT (8 may, 7:46am), he said: “Wilson Isidor, I really like him at Sunderland, he’s got 12 goals this season.”

The Mackems will need their striker back on form if they are to have any chance of placing one foot in the play-off final at Wembley come the end of May.

Sunderland must turn up the heat v Coventry

Sunderland and Coventry have a rivalry that dates back to 1977, but given the reward at stake, they will need no extra incentive to know how important this game is.

The Black Cats have had a good season and will not want to see those efforts wasted by falling at the last barrier in the playoffs.

However, unless major improvement is made, they face the possibility of that, ahead of a crucial five days of football.
