Aaron Connolly set for Sunderland exit talks – report
Aaron Connolly is set for talks with Sunderland to discuss the best course of action going forward for the Irishman after an uneventful start to his Wearside career, according to the Northern Echo.
The news outlet reported on 6 January that the former Brighton striker will discuss his future with the club in the near future, with a distinct lack of game time for the Irishman on Wearside since arriving on a free transfer in the summer.
Connolly has registered just one goal for Sunderland since joining and has been limited to only a handful of appearances all season, with many of those resulting in a lacklustre performance.
Aaron Connolly a failed signing at Sunderland?
With attacking reinforcements potentially on the radar for the Black Cats, Connolly’s future at the Stadium of Light looks bleak.
The remarkable form of Wilson Isidor matched with the recent re-emergence of Eliezer Mayenda has seen Connolly almost glued to the bench and, while that’s not a showcase of his ability, it does make his future seem dull.
The Irishman hasn’t done a lot wrong since signing but when he has featured, he hasn’t looked like having a strong impact on the season and with promotion in sight, it appears unlikely to change.
Connolly signed a one-year deal and expressed his desire to stay at the club beyond that period but with Ahmed Abdullahi also to come into the attacking picture, there simply may not be room to save a spot for the striker.

Whether Connolly could depart this January will be a question awaiting an answer in the coming weeks but it appears to be a real possibility.
However, any decision may hinge on the Wearsiders’ ability to strengthen their attacking lineup in January.
