Aaron Connolly set to leave Sunderland for another Championship club – report
Aaron Connolly looks set to depart Sunderland after just five months on Wearside with a pending move to Championship rivals Millwall, according to Roker Report.
The Black Cats fanzine reported [13 January] that the Irishman will be allowed to depart the club to join ex-Sunderland boss Alex Neil just months after claiming he wanted to extend his stay on Wearside.
Connolly hasn’t lived up to expectations at Sunderland having failed to impress on the odd occasion he has featured, with an exit looking like the best outcome for both parties.
Aaron Connolly experiment failed at Sunderland
Given the low-risk signing, it was a deal that made sense for Sunderland. It wasn’t going to bankrupt them and the potential was there for it to be a wildcard in promotion but things just didn’t work out.
Connolly barely featured and when taking into consideration the form of Wilson Isidior and Eliezer Mayenda, it was going to be very hard for him to make a claim for his place in the side.
Supporters will be undoubtedly hoping the move to Millwall pays off for Connolly who openly spoke about his troubles off the pitch and it’s a genuine shame that it just hasn’t worked at Sunderland.

Millwall will likely be able to offer him a much longer spell in the side under far less pressuring circumstances given Sunderland’s hunt for promotion.
The exit does ramp up the need for the Black Cats to bring in further attacking reinforcements of their own.
