View: 100% Trai Hume is undroppable for Sunderland after Portsmouth masterclass

Sunderland continued their impressive unbeaten home run on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win against Portsmouth and Trai Hume played an influential role.

Following on from their impressive home win against Sheffield United, the Black Cats entered the clash with Pompey knowing three points was a must and although the performance was edgy at times, they achieved just that.

Hume played a crucial role in the game and such performances may start to earn him the level of credit he deserves on Wearside.

Hume masterclass on show for Sunderland v Portsmouth

Hume is becoming, if he isn’t already, one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Mackems and his performance against Pompey showcased everything he brings to the team.

According to FotMob, the Northern Ireland international won 100 per cent of his four tackles in the game while winning a further 10 defensive duels.

Hume has built his reputation from his strong defensive showings on Wearside and that was reflected in his performance on 5 January.

His ability going forward is often exemplary as well having created three chances against Pompey with an xA (expected assists) of 0.53 while completing 42 passes in the game.

While he isn’t exactly known for his goalscoring prowess, he also managed to muster up a 100 per cent shot accuracy albeit from, just one attempt.

His involvement at the back will be crucial throughout the second half of the campaign as promotion looms for the Black Cats. He is simply undroppable.
