Trai Hume will have delighted his Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris after putting in a man of the match performance for Northern Ireland against Belarus on Saturday (13 October).
Full-back Hume has been an integral part of Sunderland’s backline this season and similarly for Northern Ireland since making his debut in 2022.
The defender attracted interest from across the globe last summer including from Galatasaray (Football League World) and his consistently high levels of performance will no doubt reignite much of that interest this summer.
Hume was a key performer despite his side being held to a goalless draw in the Nations League clash, which ultimately earned him the man of the match accolade.
Trai Hume integral for Sunderland and Northern Ireland
According to FotMob, the defender won 100 per cent of his aerial duels as well as 71% of his ground duels which comes as no surprise given his eagerness to win challenges and bravery off the ball.
He has simply been crucial to Le Bris’ side so far this season.
It isn’t often you see supporters celebrate a tackle almost as much as a goal but when Hume is on the pitch you certainly do.
With 103 touches, Hume saw more of the ball than any of his teammates, just demonstrating how important he was in last night’s encounter.
His game, however, went far beyond just tackles and touches, Hume was instrumental in possession for Michael O’Neill’s side.
Hume attempted 83 passes, completing 64 of them in accordance with WhoScored, which was again the most out of any player for Northern Ireland.
Sunderland will almost certainly have to fend off January interest in the full-back with what has been another solid start to the season for the Northern Irishman.
